About Us

The idea of the consortium is to circulate publications in a global network that will privilege under-represented academic voices. The Pan-African University Press (PAUP) welcomes manuscripts in all areas of African humanities and social sciences.

Our Story

Established in 2015, the Pan-African University Press (PAUP) embodies a pioneering collaboration between leading scholars and institutions across. Africa, Europe, and North America. Functioning as a premier global platform, the PAUP is committed to amplifying overlooked and underrepresented African- centered research and perspectives. This initiative, rooted in the decolonization of knowledge production, encompasses publishing, academic events, and forging global partnerships to drive the reach of seminal scholarship on Africa and the diaspora. The PAUP’s distinguished international editorial board, led by Chairman Professor Toyin Falola, the Jacob and Frances Sanger Mossiker Chair Professor in the Humanities at the University of Texas at Austin, includes eminent scholars such as Hakim Adi, A.B. Assensoh, Mojúbàolú Olufúnkė Okome, João José Reis, and Alinah Kelo Segobye.. Professor Falola, a Fellow of the Historical Society of Nigeria, has garnered accolades for teaching and research excellence, symbolizing a profound commitment to advancing African scholarship. Other board members bring diverse expertise, ranging from African diaspora history and archaeology to political science and human rights.

The PAUP proudly collaborates with Consortium Members, a network of esteemed institutions and organizations devoted to advancing African-centered perspectives globally. The Board of Directors, comprising a distinguished cohort of scholars dedicated to advancing African-centered perspectives globally, plays a pivotal role in steering the PAUP’s mission. Professor Ademola O. Dasylva, hailing from Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, stands out as a prominent scholar of African and Oral literatures, recognized not only for his academic achievements but also for his leadership in coordinating cultural studies groups and spearheading impactful projects such as the University of Ibadan Museum Development Programme. Professor Kenneth Harrow, a Distinguished Professor of English at Michigan State University, has significantly contributed to the study of African cinema, literature, Diaspora, and Postcolonial Studies, reflecting his profound commitment to advancing the understanding of African literary and cinematic landscapes. Meanwhile, Professor Paul Lovejoy, a Distinguished Research Professor at York University, has become a leading authority in African Diaspora History, earning accolades such as the Distinguished Africanist Award for his impactful contributions to the scholarly community.

Further, Professor Mahmood Mamdani, the Herbert Lehman Professor of Government at Columbia University, has made notable. strides in studying African history and politics, earning recognition as one of the ‘Top 20 Public Intellectuals.’ Professor Funmi Olanisakin, the founding Director of the African Leadership Centre, showcases a commitment to conflict, security, and development in Africa through her leadership at the ALC. Renowned Pan-Africanist Professor Kwesi Kwaa Prah, Founder and Director of the Centre for Advanced Studies of African Society, is recognized for extensive involvement in conferences and organizations, culminating in the prestigious Kwame Nkrumah Award for Service to Pan-Africanism. Dr. Ebrima Sall, the Executive Secretary of CODESRIA, brings a wealth of experience in sociology and research, with notable leadership and publications in human rights and democracy in Africa. Finally, Dr. Bridget A. Teboh, an Associate Professor of History, specializes in African History, African-American Women’s History, Women’s and Gender studies, African Diaspora, and oral history. Her research on colonialism, historical biography, and contributions to various scholarly works showcase her dedication to understanding and preserving African history. This collective expertise, symbolized by the PAUP’s dedicated editorial board and directors, forms the cornerstone of our commitment to advancing African scholarship on a global scale.

Our Process

PAUP invites proposals on single-authored monographs based on original research studies, thematically organized edited volumes, metadisciplinary reflections, interdisciplinary projects, and creative works. Authors are invited from all over the world. To be encouraged is the research of a new generation of scholars with fresh data, insights, and interpretations. All Pan-African Press publications pass through a rigorous peer-review process.
